Anyone and everyone involved in fishing probably has something in their tackle box belonging to Shakespeare fishing. They are an absolute staple when it comes to fishing tackle. They have a huge range of fishing gear and equipment and they have been around quite a while. Here we will go through the history of the Shakespeare fishing brand and see what got them to where they are today.
The Company was founded in 1897 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The company was found by William Shakespeare Jr. He is not the Shakespeare that we all know, nor was he related to him! Well maybe in some very distant manner.
But Shakespeare's fishing brand really took off in 1939, when they invented the "Backlash" brake and the Wondereel. This reel was one of the most popular reels to hit the fishing market. Shakespeare would eventually get elected to the National Sporting Goods Hall of Fame. They then moved their headquarters to Columbia South Carolina
Shakespeare went on to introduce the Ugly Stik Rod
to the market, the first fishing rod to feature a clear tip and Howald Process construction which make it virtually indestructible. And from there Shakespeare grew only further, winning numerous awards and accolades for their products, and finally joining up with Purefishing which meant that they became on of the biggest fishing companies there is. Now we are going to go through three of our favourite products from Shakespeare fishing.
The Big S probably one of the best known plugs in predator fishing. The complete S range have continued to catch a fish due to a combination of their fast vibratory action, realistic colours and the internal "rattler" ball bearings. Predatory fish find this diving plug irresistible, reel slowly for an enticing surface wobble and then speed up the retrieve to make the plug dive deeper.
The Shakespeare Agility 2 range provides access to high-quality fly rods to everyone at a very reasonable price! The previous Agility range has been very successful, but the redesigned Agility 2 brings even more to the table, and the features of the rods have been further developed by the rod engineers of Shakespeare.
The price-quality ratio offered by Shakespeare is always excellent. When you choose Shakespeare fly fishing gear, you know your money will be spent well!
